Our Mission
Mount Merici Academy, a Catholic school, is dedicated to nurturing the whole child - mind, body, and spirit - providing love and guidance so that students can achieve their personal best. In partnership with families, our mission is to instill the values of respect, responsibility, and self-discipline, teaching students in the Ursuline Serviam tradition of service to our community and the world.
Ursuline Educational Mission
At the heart of Ursuline education is the Gospel call to mission and the living spirit of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Sisters. Grounded in this call and in this spirit, Ursuline education is relationship-centered, with attentiveness to and respect for the unique gifts, potential, and needs of each individual. It is an educational vision that fosters the development of the whole person – spirit, mind, and body – in a nurturing community environment. As Jesus and St. Angela were both attuned to the needs of those around them, Ursuline education seeks to form servant-leaders, open to and engaged in the ever-changing global reality in which they are called to live and serve.
Your child’s first lessons about community begin here.
Mount Merici Academy is an Ursuline Catholic school. As such, it is uniquely governed by a lay Board of Trustees under the guidance of the Ursuline Sisters of the Central Province, and receives no financial support from the Diocese of Portland or from any local parish.
The school is fully administered and staffed by a dedicated Head of School and Maine State Certified faculty, all of whom are dedicated to keeping the Ursuline spirit alive by educating the whole child – mind, body and spirit – with emphasis on academic excellence and service in an environment of compassion, understanding and respect.
