We acknowledge that the following protocol exceeds CDC recommendations, however, there is a growing body of evidence pointing to its scientific prudence. Under the advisement of our school’s medical consultants, we join several area schools in choosing to adopt this protocol for the safety of our school community.

For Domestic Travel: Maine no longer requires proof of a negative test or quarantine for travelers to the state, or Mainers returning from out-of-state travel. If one or more states see a spike in cases of highly contagious COVID-19 variants, Maine will apply its test or quarantine requirement to travelers to and from that state. The Maine CDC will publicly announce any such states when they are identified.

If that occurs all staff and students traveling to a non-exempt state must quarantine for a full 72 hours after returning to Maine, and then be tested for COVID-19 on day #4. They may return to school when they can provide a physical copy of the negative result of the test. If the traveler is unable to or chooses not to do the above-mentioned test and quarantine schedule, the traveler will need to stay home for 14 days and quarantine. The day they arrive back in Maine is day zero. The next day begins the first day of either your 3-day or 14-day quarantine.

States Currently Exempted from Quarantine or Testing Requirements:

  • As of 5.1.2021, all states are exempt. This is subject to change.

  • Other exemptions that apply: Individuals that have had COVID-19 in the previous 90 days OR are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (vaccinations do not apply to our students at this time).

Other exemptions that apply: Individuals that have had COVID-19 in the previous 90 days OR are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (vaccinations do not apply to our students at this time.)

For International Travel: Upon return to Maine, staff or students must quarantine. International travelers can return to school after they: 1. Get tested 3-5 days after travel and receive a negative test result, provide the school with a copy of the result, AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel, 2. If they do not get tested, they are required to stay home and quarantine for 14 days after travel, 3. Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether they get tested or not. The day they arrive back in Maine is day zero. The next day begins the first day of either their 7-day or 14-day quarantine. Any staff or student who has traveled internationally will not be permitted inside the school building for a minimum of 7 days, even if a negative test has occurred. Returning to school after travel is not dependent on the length of time spent within the restricted states or other countries, meaning that a day visit still requires any person to quarantine and/or test as described above. Any person who is quarantining should stay home, and not have in-person contact with others unless there is an emergency. Within a household, all members (if over 12 mos. old) who travel and return to the home are expected to quarantine/be segregated from members of the household who did not travel, until the traveler/travelers has/have received a negative test result. Please continue to follow best practice safety protocols: wear a mask, keep physical distance, wash your hands, and monitor for symptoms, and help protect our schools and neighbors.

Please let us know in advance if you will be traveling outside of exempt states.
