With its focus on
securing the future of Catholic education in the greater Waterville
area, Mount Merici School enters its largest fundraising campaign in
the school’s history. Fred Boucher, a long-time supporter of Mount
Merici, has put forth an incredibly generous challenge: raise
$250,000 in gifts and pledges in two years, and the school will
receive a $250,000 matching gift.
“Mr. Boucher’s continued support of our school is remarkable,” says
Mount Merici Principal Susan Cote. Excluding this most recent gift
challenge, according to Cote, Boucher has donated nearly $500,000
over the last decade. “Our students now and into the future will
benefit from his generosity.”

“Campaign for Mount Merici: Securing a Promising Future” was
announced before hundreds of family and friends in the audience at
the school’s Christmas Program, Dec. 4, at which time Monica Wilcox
Charette, the school’s director of development, announced the first
pledge of $25,000 from Waterville’s Walter Simcock. Simcock, who has
had four children and five grandchildren attend the school, donated
the Mount Merici Mary T. Simcock Playground two years ago. A
long-time supporter of the school, Simcock has agreed to serve as
Honorary Chair of “Campaign for Mount Merici.”
The campaign received a second donation soon after the announcement.
Doug and Rita Sukeforth of China, who have also been generous
supporters of Mount Merici, have pledged $50,000 toward the
campaign. The Sukeforths have two grandsons who are Mount Merici
alumni.

Boucher and Mr. Simcock
“Raising a quarter of a
million dollars will require the support and work of many,” Charette
says, “but we’re feeling confident knowing we have the support and
leadership of Mr. Boucher, Mr. Simcock and the Sukeforth family.
Their faith in us inspires everyone involved. They’ve set the pace
for a successful campaign.”
Funds raised during the campaign are earmarked for capital
improvements, securing the school’s endowment, providing
scholarships and curriculum enhancements—securing the future of
Mount Merici School. “Campaign for Mount Merici” will officially
begin in January with the school’s internal campaigns, including the
Board of Directors, Faculty and Staff, Parents and Grandparents
campaigns. Alumni, Business and Community campaigns will follow.
Gifts and pledges toward the matching gift campaign will be received
until December 31, 2007. Payments on “Campaign for Mount Merici”
pledges may be made through December 31, 2008.
Mount Merici School is a Catholic Elementary School with 180
students enrolled in Nursery School, Prekindergarten and
Kindergarten through Grade 6.
